Toroidal cores made from Nanoperm® (nanocrystalline) material are used to reduce harmful voltages and currents in motor bearings in high-performance and/or fast-cycling inverter drive systems. Without the use of toroidal cores, these unwanted currents in the bearings lead to matting/fluting of the motor bearing, electrical breakdown of the bearing lubricant, and finally to complete failure of the motor. In addition to reducing overvoltage at the motor terminals, targeted use of the toroidal cores also significantly suppresses the asymmetrical interference currents caused by parasitic leakage capacitances of the motor cable and the motor.
